Greensand Ridge Rye Cask Gin

Greensand Ridge is an award-winning, carbon neutral distillery located in a beautifully converted Victorian coach house in the heart of Kent. Will, owner and distiller, specialises in Gins, Rums and Fruit Brandies, making spirits with provenance, using sustainable practices and turning surplus produce from local growers into fine spirits.

Greensand’s Rye Cask gin is a marriage between their classic London Dry (excellent, versatile gin we might add) and the result of ageing in ex Rye Whiskey casks for up to 12 months. The result is a fine balance that incorporates both characteristics of the gin and rye casks. There’s some complexity going on but its depth leaves us wanting to experiment…of which we have done many a time.
Botanicals that form the base of London Dry include Oak Moss, Cobnuts, Gorse Flowers, Hawthorn, Bay Laurel, Poppy Seeds, Honey, and Rosehips.

On the nose expect a solid serving of aromatic botanicals but given a bit more time, the citrus notes come through along with a warmth of complexities from the rye cask finish. It’s sweet too, drizzled honey and toffee. To taste (neat) we loved the smoothness and unmistakable spice. The finish nods to florals with soft oak in the background.

Serving Suggestion:
We sipped the Rye Cask Gin with a dash of dry ginger ale but, served over ice with a fresh lime and a more generous helping of ginger is equally as pleasant. It would also go down well with a classic Negroni!
