Benromach Sassicaia Wood Finish (2011)

The Benromach Distillery has been producing exceptional Speyside whisky since 1898, famed for their devotion in using a personal touch, and aside from smell they use sight, sound and touch without a computer or pressure gauge in sight – the result; Benromach produces exceptionally smooth and lightly smoked whiskies.

This 2011 (bottled 2019) limited-edition wood fill series single malt from Benromach has been matured in first fill bourbon barrels before being finished Sassicaia wine casks from Bolgheri, Italy. The result is deep ruby liquid that looks as inviting as it tastes.

On the nose expect bursting berries, earthy spice and smoke. The palate is ripe dark fruit, fresh zested orange, background peppery notes, oak and spice. The finish is smoky, not overpoweringly so but very pleasing, sweet fruit continues.
